About Saelens Trading

Saelens Trading was founded in 1993. Since that time, we established a trustworthy name in the timbersector. We are purchasing the best timbers available in Brazil, Guyana and Surinam for our Northern European customers. Timbers are coming from legally harvested forests only, controlled by SEMA and IBAMA in Brazil, by SBB in Surinam, and by Guyana Forestry Commission in Guyana. Sustainability by selective harvesting is the key to success to preserve the tropical rainforest for coming generations.

Environment & FSC

At Saelens Trading our quality control and network of suppliers ensure that we provide a comprehensive range of consistently high quality timber products, always taking into consideration all EUTR regulations. Almost 80 % of our products are certified FSC®-controlled wood and FSC® 100%.

Our Suppliers in Surinam currently practice sustainable forest management and silviculture systems, developed by the centre for Agricultural Research in Surinam (CELOS). The CELOS system uses selective farming technique to ensure a systematic pruning which allows a faster natural regeneration of tree. Felling older and sick trees allow more sunlight for younger trees, promoting faster forest regeneration.
